The question of how and when employers can ask about criminal convictions is rapidly evolving. Earlier this year, the City of Los Angeles enacted one of the most restrictive ban-the-box ordinances for private employers. On July 1, 2017, California employers will have to comply with the Fair Employment and Housing Council’s regulations on the consideration of criminal history. And California is currently considering enacting a state-wide ban-the-box ordinance. We will discuss tips on how to comply with LA Ban the Box Ordinance and the New FEHC Regulations on Criminal History as well as what may be on the horizon for California employers.
