In the Daily Journal article “Business group calls PAGA claim moratorium amid pandemic,” Los Angeles Partner Shaun Voigt offers his comments on a potential PAGA moratorium given the COVID-19 outbreak. The California Business and Industrial Alliance recently called for Gov. Gavin Newsom to issue a moratorium on PAGA claims.
Shaun says a moratorium could be beneficial to businesses trying to respond to shelter-in-place orders. “There are a lot that businesses responding to and dedicating resources to trying to keep themselves afloat and keep employees employed,” he explained. However, he clarifies that a moratorium wouldn’t necessarily be a license for companies to flout the law.
