Higher Education Compliance Bootcamp: Title IX and Beyond
The Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida is pleased to host a two-day Higher Education Compliance Bootcamp for higher education administrators on June 20 and 21 at Keiser University in Tampa, Florida.
This program will teach participants how to design a campus-wide compliance infrastructure that can be utilized to manage all compliance functions from Cabinet level to department level in a manner that reduces silos, increases effectiveness, and builds confidence in compliance efforts at all levels. Particular attention will be paid to Title IX and ADA compliance during this two-day session.
INSTRUCTORS
Scott Schneider heads the Higher Education Practice Group for Fisher Phillips and is a nationally recognized professional on higher education legal issues and institutional response to sex assault. He has litigated on behalf of education institutions around the country. He also provides expert witness testimony on matters dealing with institutional response to allegations of sexual misconduct and designs and delivers training programs on a host of education issues, including Title IX compliance obligations. He has provided training or delivered presentations for the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Association of Student Conduct Administrators’ Gehring Institute, and various associations of independent schools. In addition, Scott has been retained by the National Center for Campus Public Safety to serve as a faculty member for its Trauma-Informed Sexual Assault Investigation and Adjudication training program for campus officials.
Theresa Gallion is a partner in the Fisher Phillips Tampa office, a member in the Higher Education Practice Group and the founding partner of the Tampa and Orlando offices. During her 35 years of practice as a labor and employment attorney, she has represented clients in a wide variety of industries, with particular emphasis on colleges and universities. Theresa is one of the firm's most experienced trial lawyers, and has litigated on behalf of education institutions nationwide. In addition, a substantial portion of her practice is devoted to training programs on a host of education issues. Theresa is "AV" Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has also been listed in Chambers USA, America's Leading Business Lawyers since 2004.
Lorna Fink is the University Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator for Lynn University. Fink was hired by Lynn University to create a comprehensive Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct program which included training staff, creation of a grievance procedure and comprehensive policy, and designing and implementing a custom primary and ongoing prevention and awareness program. Ms. Fink served as the University's first full-time Title IX Coordinator and first centralized Compliance Officer creating the Office of University Compliance which coordinates existing compliance programs within the University in addition to overseeing equity programming, including but not limited to Title IX, ADA, and discrimination. Ms. Fink speaks at national and international conferences on issues related to higher education compliance, with a specific focus on Title IX. Currently, Ms. Fink serves as chair of the Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct Advisory Committee, on the Women's Advisory Board, and on the Gilda's Club of South Florida Young Leadership Council.
