Georgia Chapter - September Luncheon - Two Hour Labor Law Update
Event
9.09.14
The Georgia Chapter of Association of Corporate Counsel and Fisher Phillips will present: ”Got Employees? You Won’t Want to Miss This! An Employment Law Round Up”. Please note this is a two-hour CLE program and will cover four of the key recent employment law issues that in-house counsel need to keep front of mind:
Affirmative Action
The Year in Review (and it’s not even over yet!)
The OFCCP has issued new regulations setting benchmarks for hiring individuals with disabilities and veterans, along with other changes. This year, President Obama issued a number of Executive Orders affecting contractors. This session will update attendees about recent developments affecting government contractors and provide them with a few practical take-aways for adapting to these rapid changes.
Immigration Compliance
Tips to Avoid and Handle a Government Investigation
In-house counsel will learn how to conduct an I-9 self-audit and correct errors, how to handle an Immigration and Customs Enforcement I-9 audit and how to avoid a Department of Justice immigration discrimination investigation.
A Quick Review of Hot Topics under the ADA and FMLA
Dealing with ADA and FMLA issues has always been a challenge for employers. As the definition of what is a disability expands, is there anyone who ISN’T disabled? When examining essential job functions, isn’t attendance ALWAYS essential? How much leave is enough? How do you know the employee really is incapacitated? And if there’s no injury, there’s no claim, right? We’ll answer these and other questions that in-house counsel needs to know.
Employees Come, Employees Go: Best Practices for Protecting Your Company’s Talent, Key Relationships, and Confidential Information
In an economy with a fluid workforce, today’s key employee could become tomorrow’s competitive threat. So what steps should you take now and in the future to protect your company against a key employee departing? Conversely, what are the best steps you can take when recruiting talent from a competitor to ensure that you don’t end up with your new hire coming with a side of legal quagmire?
