LOS ANGELES & IRVINE (June 14, 2013) – Fisher Phillips announced that four attorneys were named to 2013 Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars in Southern California. Selected were: Todd Scherwin, managing partner of the Los Angeles office, Lonnie Giamela a partner who works in the Los Angeles and Irvine offices, and Lizbeth Ochoa and Boris Sorsher, associates in the Irvine office. The 2013 Rising Stars Award is an honor that recognizes lawyers who are 40 years old or younger, excelling in their practice and building the foundations for a long and prosperous career. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in Southern California are selected for the designation.
Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a unique selection process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third-party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.
Todd Scherwin regularly provides human resource training to clients and speaks to employers and employer groups about labor and employment issues. He also currently teaches California Labor and Employment Law to management students at California State University, Long Beach. Scherwin has handled cases in state and federal court, as well as matters before federal and state administrative agencies, including the Department of Labor, the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
Lonnie Giamela has cemented his reputation and practice in Southern California with experience ranging from fair employment to intellectual property, wage and hour, independent contractor classification and medical leaves. He also has experience with mass layoff and preparation of employment documents such as handbook and compensation plans. In addition, his practice involves collective bargaining, defense of unfair labor practice charges, arbitrations and representation of employers in union organizing campaigns.
Lisbeth Ochoa represents and counsels employers on various employment related matters, including discrimination, unlawful harassment, wrongful termination, unfair business practices and wage and hour issues. She has experience litigating employment matters in state and federal courts as well as in state and federal administrative agencies such as the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the EEOC and others.
Boris Sorsher focuses his practice on all areas of labor and employment law, including defense of class actions. He is a determined and aggressive litigator who has successfully represented clients in mediation, arbitration, as well as state and federal court proceedings.
