Federal Overtime Rules Kick in on January 1, 2020

The U.S. Department of Labor’s new rules regarding overtime pay will make an estimated 1.3 million workers eligible for overtime pay. The new rule, effective January 1, 2020, increases the salary threshold for overtime by about $12,000. Hagood Tighe, co-chair of Fisher Phillips’ national Wage and Hour practice told SC Lawyers Weekly this is a significant change. “There are lots of lawyers who aren’t necessarily employment lawyers, but may have clients who are in industries that are affected by some of these regulations.” He suggests employers pay attention to this change and update their policies to comply with the new rule.
