Summer Associate Application and Interview FAQ
2027 Summer Associate Program – 2L Recruiting
Fisher Phillips’ Summer Associate Program provides law students with meaningful exposure to the work, people, and practice of a national labor and employment law firm. Summer associates work closely with attorneys across offices, contribute to active client matters, and gain insight into the collaborative culture that defines our firm.
Our Summer Associate Program is offered in select offices based on business needs and practice demand. Participating offices and open positions are posted on our Join Us page each recruiting season.
Applications for the 2027 Summer Associate Program open on May 1, 2026.
We recruit nationally through on-campus interview programs (OCI), consortium interview programs, and direct applications. If we are not participating in OCI at your law school, you may apply directly through our application portal by submitting your materials to an open position.
Participating offices and open opportunities will be available on our Join Us page when applications open.
Our interview process typically begins with an initial interview through an On-Campus Interview (OCI) program or a video interview with one or two attorneys. Candidates who move forward are invited to participate in a callback interview, which may take place virtually or in person.
Our interviews are structured, practical, and designed to help us understand your interests, experience, and approach to problem solving.
Candidates may apply through our online portal when positions open or through their law school’s On-Campus Interview (OCI) program if Fisher Phillips is participating at their school.
If we are not participating in OCI at your law school, we welcome direct applications through our application portal when positions are posted.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and early submission is encouraged.
We look for candidates with strong academic credentials, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in labor and employment law. Equally important are professionalism, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively.
Summer splits may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on office needs and timing. Candidates should raise this early in the process.
The program typically runs for approximately ten weeks, though timing may vary by office.
Summer associates receive substantive legal work similar to that handled by junior associates, including research, drafting, and client-related projects. Assignments are designed to provide meaningful exposure to the practice.
Summer associates participate in formal training programs, practice group sessions, and informal mentoring. The focus is on developing practical skills and understanding the day-to-day practice of labor and employment law.
The program includes a mix of professional development sessions and social events designed to help you get to know our lawyers and culture. Events vary by office.
