Fisher Phillips Attorney Previews Life for California Employers under Gov. Gavin Newsom
In his bylined piece for The Recorder titled “What Will a Governor Newsom Mean for California Employers?,” Sacramento attorney Benjamin M. Ebbink offers a preview into what California employers can expect under Governor-elect Gavin Newsom. In his article, Ben reviews some of Newsom’s previous comments and campaign statements to shed some light on the course he may take on labor and employment issues.
According to Ben, the most pressing concern Gov. Newsom will face is the fallout from the California Supreme Court’s Dynamex Operations West ruling that established the ABC test for determining worker classification. Ben expects numerous legislation to solve the difficulties created by this standard in 2019. Ben also notes that Newsom has been a “staunch advocate of the #MeToo movement” and that employers can expect the legislative focus on sexual harassment to continue.
