Overview

A passionate litigator, Ariella Onyeama has represented employers and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation claims in California for more than a decade.

Ariella has significant first-chair case management experience and a stellar record of achieving successful decisions and settlements. Forging strong client relationships, she thoroughly learns her clients’ businesses and identifies pathways to minimize risk and achieve optimal results. She has managed scores of cases from inception through trial and appeals before the California Workers’ Compensation Board and California Court of Appeals.

As a member of the International Practice Group, Ariella assists clients on various issues related to employees in jurisdictions around the world and helps prevent and manage cross border employment disputes.

Ariella has prepared numerous cross-border agreements for U.S.-based clients seeking to do business with entities in foreign jurisdictions as well as foreign-based clients seeking to do business with U.S. entities. She has prepared agreements relating to international remote work arrangements and international employment terminations, drafted employment handbooks for use in Japan and Puerto Rico, and conducted presentations on global data privacy and worker classification issues.

Her recent experience has included:

  • Winning a fully favorable summary judgment in federal court in a single plaintiff FEHA disability discrimination case.
  • Counseling a client’s Japanese entity through an audit by Japan’s Ministry of Labor to successful completion, avoiding the imposition of penalties.

Ariella joined Fisher Phillips after representing professional sports clubs, self-insured employers and insurers at a boutique law firm in Los Angeles.

She frequently presents to clients, brokers, and members of the bar on industry trends and best practices.
