HR Dive turned to Todd Scherwin for insight into their latest Mailbag series question: Can I restrict workers’ personal travel? With the upcoming holiday season about to collide with a pandemic, employers have some options when it comes to workers’ personal travel. For starters, Todd says while employers have options, some may not be able to outright prohibit personal travel depending on applicable state and local laws. For employers who operate in a state that has laws against prohibiting off-duty conduct, Todd advises them to ask employees to receive a COVID-19 test or consider remote work. Ultimately, he recommends employers monitor, ask questions and know when employees are traveling so they can taker proper precautions in their workplaces.
