The article “Blurred Lines: The Distinction Between Employee and Independent Contractor is Getting Fuzzy” discussed how the lines between employee and independent contractor have gotten fuzzy as more companies farm out duties to contractors and more people leave the ranks of full-time employment to work for themselves.

Jim provided tips for current job hunters.

If you’re job hunting, find out if the job that you’re interested in is contract work or an employee position by asking about things like work schedules, said Jim.

“In some cases it’s black and white whether you’re an employee or independent contractor,” McDonald said. “Many cases fall somewhere in the middle. Just the fact that a person has a company email address wouldn’t make them an employee, or being asked to attend meetings.”
