Kevin Troutman was quoted in the Houston Chronicle article "Bankruptcy; Employee Or Contractor? Brown Medical Center Worker Contends He's Been Misclassified," on January 18, 2014.
The article highlighted a case involving a former Houston hand surgeon in the midst of multiple legal battles.
According to the article, the remaining employees of the Brown Medical Center were informed in October that they were no longer considered employees.
The workers now have to pay their own share of Social Security and Medicare taxes, and are no longer eligible for medical insurance and pension plans or, once their work comes to an end, for unemployment benefits, according to the article.
"The ship is sinking, and the remaining passengers, the employees, are looking for a lifeboat, and no one wants to give them one," said Kevin.
