A Few Precautions Can Prevent Frightening Halloween Party Outcomes

News

10.24.11

Christopher Boman, a partner in the Irvine office, offered advice to employers about Halloween parties in the workplace in the October 24 BNA Human Resources Report article "A Few Precautions Can Prevent Frightening Halloween Party Outcomes." Chris said that companies are moving away from Halloween parties, but many let employees dress up and celebrate with a pot luck lunch. Employers know that costumed workers will be a distraction and therefore cause a temporary productivity dip, but the flip side is a morale boost. By providing clear and concise guidance about what is and is not appropriate, in terms of both attire and behavior, employers can prevent a positive from becoming a negative. "You don't have to wear a suit under your costume, but obviously it's a work function, so policies and procedures apply."
