
Overview
Joe Mendes is a seasoned trial attorney with more than a decade of litigation experience and a track record of success representing clients in complex civil disputes. He brings a wealth of first-chair trail experience and a pragmatic, strategic approach to helping businesses resolve high-stakes labor and employment matters.
Having tried more than 100 cases to verdict across Massachusetts and Maine, Joe guides employers through disputes involving claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and workplace safety issues. He is adept at managing risk, identifying early resolution opportunities, and vigorously defending clients in court when necessary.
Before joining Fisher Phillips, Joe practiced in the Boston and Portland, Maine offices of a litigation defense firm, where he handled high-exposure employment, products liability, premises liability, and catastrophic injury cases. His litigation experience spans a wide range of civil matters, including construction accidents, commercial transportation incidents, professional negligence, and wrongful death cases.
Joe is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, where he was Co-Chair of the Moot Court Board and earned the Advanced Trial Advocacy Award and the Upper-Level Writing Award. He was also a finalist at the National Sports Law Moot Court Competition.
A native of Maine and a dual citizen of Canada, Joe is deeply engaged in his community. He serves as a volunteer attorney-coach for high school mock trial teams and is a longtime USA Hockey referee, officiating games from youth leagues to NCAA Division III.
