Weathering California’s 2016 Employment Law “El Nino”
Breakfast Briefing
California’s legislature, administrative agencies and courts have been predictably busy the first quarter of 2016. The DFEH has issued new regulations requiring changes to employers’ harassment policies and trainings and has provided important guidance regarding transgendered employees. The courts also have issued key rulings, including requiring companies to alter their practices with respect to “tip pooling.” The U.S. Department of Labor has finalized its new “persuader” rule, which will dramatically impact many employers. These are just some of the developments that promise to make 2016 another challenging year for California employers. In this program, we will discuss the changes we have seen in the first quarter of 2016 as well as what we see on the horizon, so you can ensure compliance and prepare for the rest of the year. Some of the topics that will be covered are:
- Workplace Bullying
- New Regulations Regarding the Policy Against Harassment
- SB 358 – the Equal Pay Act
- AB 304 – Paid Sick Leave Amendment
- Retaliation for Requesting a Reasonable Accommodation
- Family School Partnership Act - Update
- PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) - New Cure Rights and Reform
- Uber and Lyft – Independent Contractor lawsuits
