A lot of companies are ignorant to the holistic approach, said Howard. "It's going to catch a lot of employers napping," he said, noting that the Obama administration is focusing vigorously on the gig economy through regulatory efforts and enforcement crackdowns, with several government agencies working together on the issue. "There just remains, even with what's going on, a lot of ignorance among employers on [who] is a bona-fide employee," he said.
