TAG Human Resources Society in partnership with Fisher Phillips presents:
“Biometrics in the Workplace: New Technology & Risks for Employers.”
The discussion will be led by C.R. Wright from the Atlanta office of Fisher Phillips.
Increasingly, employers are using biometrics (“life measurements”) in the workplace to identify, authenticate, track, and monitor employees. Employees and advocacy groups are increasingly objecting to the use of biometrics by employers, citing privacy and other concerns. Whether it is a fingerprint, a hand scan, or other form of biometric data, an individual may be reluctant to “hand it over” to his or her employer.
Employers should therefore take into account the legal and practical considerations when implementing or continuing the use of biometrics in the workplace. Some states already have laws regulating the use of biometrics, and more laws are being drafted as businesses increase the use of biometrics and fears rise on the part of individuals concerned about the capture and use of their biometric data.
