Steve advised that HR should answer these basic questions: What kind of work environment do I want to maintain? What would relaxed dress standards do to those objectives? What is acceptable attire? Do employees share the same view? Is there a mutual understanding?
For many businesses, Steve said, casual Fridays can be a litmus test. If employees are pushing the boundaries of casual Friday attire, he said, it should indicate potential problems with offering a summer-long casual code.
