In a recently published Law360 feature story, David Walton discussed his 20-year-long career as a prominent labor and employment litigator who has become both a role model and a voice for those who stutter.
While there are a lot of misconceptions about the speech impediment, one of the worst is that it's something to overcome, he said
"I think stuttering is a power," he said. "It's made me gritty. It makes me tough."
Walton works with Joseph Donaher at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to put on a "stuttering camp" for teens and pre-adolescent kids who stutter. He also gives speeches and says that he regularly speaks with young lawyers and law students who stutter, about how they can overcome obstacles in the legal industry.
"It's taken me 53 years to kind of get to this point where I'm fully 100% comfortable with the fact I stutter," David said. "And I've pushed myself. I've done probably well over 100 speeches, and presentations in front of really large groups."
