Brian Finucane was quoted on KSHB Kansas City on March 12, 2015. The article “Some March Madness Brackets Are Illegal” addressed legal ramifications revolving March Madness office pools.
Brian said a pool where someone collects money for a final prize is against the law. But that doesn’t mean you can’t play.
“You can still have the brackets that everybody has. One way for the employer to make it more fun for employees is for the employer to create some kind of prize. It can be a cash prize. It can be something else.”
He said during March Madness, lost productivity on the job is an estimated $1 billion an hour. Last year employees bet some $3 billion on the tournament.
