In an interview with NPR’s Marketplace, Darcey Groden shares her insight on how employers can prepare for California’s new privacy law. California's landmark consumer privacy law has been expanded with a ballot measure approved in 2020. This means that companies now must disclose the data that they collect from employees, how they use it, and who they share it with. This includes job applicants, independent contractors, and emergency contacts.
It may be tricky for employers to comply with this law due to the vast amount of data they have on employees. "While many companies already have the infrastructure for dealing with consumer data, the employment relationship is much more involved," says Darcey.
