Although the NLRB allowed for the organization of student unions at private institutions last summer, there have been few union successes. Some say this is due to institutions procrastination while awaiting new NLRB appointees. In the article, " ‘Running Out the Clock’ on Grad Unions?" Joseph Ambash discusses the potential outcomes once the NLRB once again has a full committee.
Joseph said there’s a “general understanding among management labor attorneys and, obviously, many employers around the country that a new NLRB majority will seek to reconsider a host of decisions,” including Columbia. Indeed, he said, “there’s significant hope that the NLRB will correct the excesses of the past NLRB.”
