Regina Petty Named to Lawyers of Color’s Inaugural Nation’s Best List

SAN DIEGO (June 6, 2019) – Regina Petty, Chief Diversity Officer and partner at Fisher Phillips, was named to Lawyer of Color’s Inaugural Nation’s Best list. The 2019 list, presented by Major, Lindsay & Africa with the support of the Diverse Partners Network, recognizes exceptional law firm partners and senior-level corporate counsel who have achieved prominence and distinction in their fields and demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession. Regina is the only honoree from the nation’s top labor and employment firms listed in the Western Region of the Nation’s Best list.
As Chief Diversity Officer, Regina provides leadership, vision and strategic direction to advance the diversity and inclusion values of Fisher Phillips to achieve professional and organizational excellence. She engages with every single one of the firm’s attorneys and staff on diversity and inclusion efforts in order to enhance a firm-wide culture and atmosphere that is welcoming and open to everyone.
In her legal practice, Regina represents clients before state and federal courts throughout the country at the trial and appellate court levels. She advises private and public employers on their most pressing workplace issues. Regina successfully argued Jones v. The Lodge at Torrey Pines Partnership (2008) 42 Cal.4th 1158 before the California Supreme Court, a case noted on Bender's California Labor & Employment Bulletin's top ten list of most significant cases and trends for the Fair Employment and Housing Act's (FEHA) 50th anniversary.
Regina is a recognized bar leader and diversity champion in the legal profession. Nationally, she is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association and was a member of the Formation and Advisory Committees for the American Bar Association’s Conference of Minority Partners in Majority/Corporate Law Firms. Locally, she was the first African-American president of the San Diego County Bar Association and was a member of the steering committee for the California Minority Corporate Counsel Program. Regina has also been a member of the ABA House of Delegates, a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, a co-chairperson of the ABA Litigation Section’s Task Force on Bias in the Courts, a member of the Board of Governors of California Women Lawyers, and a board member and program chair of Lawyers Club of San Diego. She has made substantial contributions to diversity initiatives and legal education programs for the National Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the International Association of Defense Counsel.
Recently, Regina was honored by the Lawyers Club of San Diego with the Belva Lockwood Award for her dedication to advancing women’s equality in the legal profession. She was also honored by the California Association of Black Lawyers at the State Bar of California’s annual meeting, where she was recognized by President Camille Townsend as “an example of visionary leadership in her practice and the community.” Regina has also been presented the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association’s “Thurgood Marshall Award” and received the San Diego County Bar Association’s Diversity Award. She is a recipient of the San Diego Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business Award,” the YWCA’s “Tribute to Women in Industry Award” and the San Diego-Imperial Counties Council of Girl Scouts “Cool Woman Award.” Regina has been recognized as one of the Los Angeles Daily Journal's “Top 75 Women Litigators in California” and as one of the San Diego Daily Transcript’s “Top Ten Attorneys” in both the labor and employment and business litigation categories.
Regina earned both her J.D. and her A.B. Economics from Stanford University.
