PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 21, 2012) – The Board of Directors of the Reading Terminal Market Corporation (RTMC) has elected Brent Cossrow to serve as its Vice Chairman. Cossrow, a partner in the Philadelphia office of Fisher Phillips , was appointed to the Board of the RTMC by the Reading Terminal Market Merchants' Association (RTMMA) in October 2009. Cossrow's election marks the first time that a Merchant-appointed Director has been elected to serve as the Vice Chairman. Cossrow fills a vacancy left by the death of long time Director and Vice Chairwoman, Rebecca Stoloff. The Board also re-elected Eugene LeFevre and Karen Randal to continue serving as the RTMC's Treasurer and Secretary, respectively.
"Brent's election as Vice Chairman is an incredible return on the investment made by the Merchants to strengthen their relationship with the Market's management," said Michael Holahan, President of the RTMMA.
Before his appointment to the RTMC Board, Cossrow served as General Counsel to RTMMA.
"As General Counsel, Brent believed that one of the keys to the Market's growth and success would be the relationship between the Market's management and its Merchants," said Vinnie Iovine, owner and co-founder of Molly Malloy's and Iovine Brothers Produce. "He was right. The cooperation between the Market's Board and the Merchants has never been better, and this has been essential to the success of the Avenue D renovation project."
The Market recently completed a $3.4 million renovation project that created openings for new merchants and usable space along its back wall.
"This is a dynamic time for our Market," said Cossrow. "Leading up to the renovation, we received a surprising number of strong applications from diverse food businesses that wanted to be a part of the Market. We have homegrown merchants receiving regional and national acclaim, our visitor counts are trending higher than ever, and our purveyors continue to offer some of the best local produce in the Delaware Valley," Cossrow continued. "I have been fortunate to serve with Directors who are so committed to maintaining the Reading Terminal's place among the world's finest public markets."
The RTMC is a not-for-profit corporation created in 1994 for the sole purpose of managing the historic Reading Terminal Market. The Corporation is charged with the mission to preserve the architectural and historical character, and function, of the Market as an urban farmers' market. The Market is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors that is appointed by the Mayor of Philadelphia, the City Council of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, the Merchants' Association, the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, and the Reading Terminal Market Preservation Fund.
