Shayna Balch was quoted in the Phoenix Business Journal on November 20, 2014. The article “Preaching From the Boss: Employer's Faith Can Prompt Religious Discrimination Lawsuits” examined the expansive impact that members of the Latter-day Saints church have on Arizona business.
Shayna said the number of LDS-related discrimination cases is in line with the volume of complaints against other faiths.
The EEOC and employment attorneys say they are seeing more workplace lawsuits involving Muslims and Eastern religions that have specific dress, grooming and behavioral codes.
"The most identifiable religious claims that we have seen tend to deal with Middle Eastern religions, and those religions requiring certain dress codes," Shayna noted.
