She covered five surprising things that could cost a person their job.
1. White lies on your resume
Employers want to hire the person you portrayed yourself to be during the interview process, not a glorified imposter. Lying on your resume demonstrates poor judgment and dishonesty and can include overstating your credentials and education, lying about prior work history or lying about why you left a job. Keep in mind that even if you do get hired and work for the company for several years, an employer can terminate you if they discover that you were dishonest during the application process.
2. Conducting personal business at work
Employers often frown upon employees who send personal emails, check their social media accounts, shop, plan vacations and play online games while on the clock. Granted, most companies have varying policies when it comes to personal business so be sure to check your company handbook for specifics. If your employer does not have a policy, err on the side of caution and limit the amount of time you spend on non-work activities.
