Partner’s Insight Referenced in HR Dive Article on Cannabis Testing
Alexander Wheatly’s previously published firm insight on pre-employment cannabis testing was cited in an HR Dive article on the increase of workers testing positive in the U.S. In the referenced portion, Alex explains how Washington State’s new legislation addresses concerns about the "disconnect between an employee’s legal off-duty activities and an employer’s hiring criteria.” And he goes on to explain that: “[t]he law, which takes effect in January 2024…protects a job applicant from discrimination based on their cannabis use off the job and away from the workplace and prohibits employers from denying someone a job because of a positive drug test for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.”
