Ed Foulke is quoted in the Akron Legal News article that discusses the ISO 45001, the new standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization to provide guidance to businesses on how to improve safety, reduce risks and create better working conditions.
Ed, who sat on the technical advisory group for the American Society of Safety Engineers, along with a committee of experts from 70 countries helped develop the standard.
“The ISO 45001 can help companies take safety to the next level,” said Foulke, former assistant secretary of labor for OSHA under President George W. Bush. “The new standard will replace the British 18001 system.
In addition to reducing costs related to worker injuries and deaths, Foulke said the new standard aligns with other management systems that many companies already have in place, such as the ISO 9001 (quality management) and the ISO 14001 (environmental management) and will significantly enhance a company’s sustainability program.
