In interviews with various media outlets, Kevin Troutman shares his preliminary thoughts on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) May 13, 2021 guidance stating that fully vaccinated people can forgo wearing masks in many indoor and outdoor settings. After this guidance was released, many people were left wondering what it might mean for employers, and Kevin weighed-in with his initial thoughts and insights. He explained that employers would likely be anxious to implement the latest CDC guidance, but he also encouraged patience while waiting to see how the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will translate the CDC’s guidance into the context of workplace guidance. Kevin expressed hope that OSHA would soon update its guidance to provide clarity that is consistent with the CDC’s new guidance, but he added that “unless and until they do, employers should be aware that OSHA’s workplace safety guidance still applies.”
