In an interview with Law360, Todd Lyon discusses the anticipated uptick in strikes, organizing, and other work stoppages in 2023. He explains that he has seen more strikes in 2022 than he has in the past six years combined in his practice and that increased worker activism, a high cost of living, and a tight labor market are fueling strike actions. Todd also notes that if nonunion workers begin to make up a larger share of strikes, it would mean more employers are at risk of facing such work stoppages, and that unions give employers a single voice to contend with across the table when negotiating to end the stoppage.
"In an unorganized workplace there's no guarantee of having a sit-down, there's no guarantee of having an exclusive voice to all those varied interests."
