Houston Partner and Healthcare Co-Chair Weighs-in on Texas Governor’s Order Banning Vaccine Mandates

In an interview with Inside Health Policy, Kevin Troutman discusses Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's ban on COVID-19 vaccine mandates and how it may interact with the federal mandate. “Where there's a conflict between federal and state law, I certainly expect state law to have to yield to the federal law,” Kevin said. The federal mandate includes a regular testing option for employees who don’t get vaccinated and Kevin said this technically could coexist with the Texas ban. But ultimately, Kevin added, it will take time to see how all this plays out. “They could play out fairly quickly­--someone may challenge the ban, [get a] temporary restraining order, try to get it shut down immediately. We'll just have to see because you know there's so many different opinions.”
