The article, “Grad Students at Private Colleges Win NLRB Ruling to Unionize,” featured on Law.com, covered a labor panel’s recent decision in which they ruled that graduate students at Columbia University performing teaching and research roles are employees under federal law and can join labor unions.
Joe Ambash provided his take on the decision.
“These decisions could take months or years and there could be litigation because the NLRB has no standards articulated about what is or isn’t a subject of bargaining in higher education,” said Joe, who represented Brown University in its previous win. Joe wrote an amicus brief in the Columbia case on behalf of Ivy League universities.
