In an interview with radio station 89.3 KPCC, Co-Chair of the Gig Economy Practice Group, Rich Meneghello comments on the new California Supreme Court decision that replaced a strict 10-factor test to determine if someone is an employee or an independent contractor with a simpler "ABC" test. Under the new test, workers are considered employees if they perform tasks that are the "usual course" of the company's business.
When asked how he sees this decision changing the game for the gig economy, Rich said, "This is a game-changer…this decision will force any of these companies that use independent contractors as their model to take a fresh look in the way they classify their workers and perhaps change some of the ways in which they do their work to meet the new standard."
