The law could be seen more as “a symbolic encroachment on employers’ rights than it is a meaningful one,” Bert Brannen told Bloomberg BNA on April 24 as the bill awaited the governor's signature. Since the law doesn't require companies to offer paid sick leave, employers that deem the family members provision too burdensome could eliminate sick leave altogether, he said.
