Portland, OR (July 10, 2012) - Three attorneys in the Portland office of Fisher Phillips were selected by their peers for inclusion in 2012 Oregon Super Lawyers, and two associate attorneys are listed in Rising Stars. Partners Clarence Belnavis and Richard Meneghello, and Senior Counsel Corbett Gordon are listed in Oregon Super Lawyers, and associates Laura Jordan and Erin Sweeney are included in Rising Stars. The honors are bestowed on only five percent of lawyers in the state.
Belnavis was selected for inclusion in 2012 Oregon Super Lawyers in the employment and labor law category. He has substantial experience handling various types of employment litigation including disability, racial, and gender discrimination; retaliation; sexual harassment; and wrongful discharge. He also represents employers in wage and hour claims, employment class actions and traditional labor matters. Belnavis has been listed in Oregon Super Lawyers for multiple years.
Gordon, who was listed by The Best Lawyers in America as Portland's best management labor lawyer 2012, was listed in 2012 Oregon Super Lawyers in the employment and labor law category. She has represented employers in Oregon since 1982 and in Washington since 2003. Gordon was lead counsel and argued the U.S. Supreme Court Albertsons v. Kirkingburg case, securing a unanimous 9-0 victory for the defense. For many years, Gordon taught the employment law course as an adjunct professor at Willamette University College of Law. She is experienced in defending employers before juries, advising them in all aspects of labor and employment matters, and working with them on union-related issues including contract enforcement and collective bargaining. Gordon has been recognized in Oregon Super Lawyers since 2005 for her labor and employment law practice.
Meneghello was also selected for inclusion in 2012 Oregon Super Lawyers in the employment and labor law category. He focuses much of his practice on disability discrimination defense issues. Meneghello was the lead associate attorney before the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1999 case of Albertsons v. Kirkingburg, a decision interpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act in favor of employers. Besides disability discrimination matters, Meneghello commonly appears in court defending claims of sexual harassment, gender discrimination, workers compensation discrimination, public accommodation, race discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and family and medical leave discrimination. He also regularly represents employers in labor grievance arbitrations. Meneghello has been listed in Oregon Super Lawyers for multiple years.
Jordan is listed as a Rising Star recognition for attorneys who are under the age of 40 or have been practicing for 10 or fewer years in the employment litigation: defense category. She represents management in all aspects of employment law, including discrimination, wrongful termination, workplace harassment, and wage and hour claims. She has been listed in Oregon Super Lawyers as a Rising Star since 2009.
Sweeney was selected for inclusion as a Rising Star in the employee benefits/ERISA category. She represents management in all aspects of employment law, including defense of discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims, and advises clients on day-to-day employment issues. She also assists employers with traditional labor matters, including union avoidance or organizing campaigns, labor disputes, unfair labor practice charges, grievance arbitrations and secondary picketing.
