In the June 2021 edition of the National Association of Independent Schools Magazine, Susan Guerette provides “summer homework” to school leaders. In the article, she suggests that schools should consider updating their handbooks and workplace policies for the next year to incorporate what was learned from COVID-19, increase flexibility, comply with new laws, and reduce potential risks. Susan says that schools may consider new policies in the areas of safety, vaccines and paid leave policies. She also recommends that schools still incorporate basic handbook provisions, such as those related to harassment reporting, drug and alcohol testing, student counseling and consent to recording.
