Fisher Phillips, a national labor and employment law firm representing employers, announces that James J. McDonald, Jr., managing partner of the firm’s Irvine office, has been elected chair of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, effective July 1. McDonald has served as vice chair and general counsel of the Chamber since 1999.
The Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce is a premier business member organization, aiming to promote an economic climate that strengthens the competitiveness of local services, programs and information. Representing nearly 800 businesses in the area, the Chamber is one of the most influential chambers in California. With a four-star accreditation by the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber fosters community development, promotes economic growth and advocates for the interests of the local business community.

McDonald advises and defends California employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. He co-founded the firm’s Irvine office in 1990. McDonald is the author of the book California Employment Law: An Employer’s Guide, published by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in 2016. He teaches labor and employment law in the Human Resources Management Program at the University of California, Irvine. For the past two years, McDonald has been on the Best Lawyers "Lawyer of the Year" list for Employment Law - Management - Orange County and has been listed in both The Best Lawyers in America and Southern California Super Lawyers since 2007.
McDonald received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University (1984) and his B.A. from New College of Florida (1981).
