Fisher Phillips, one of the country’s preeminent labor and employment law firms representing employers, announces that Laurel Cornell is the new Regional Managing Partner of the firm’s Louisville office, effective April 1, 2021.
Laurel is a partner and co-chair of the firm's Healthcare Industry Group representing healthcare organizations across the country with the many employment-related issues unique to that industry. Her practice also entails representing employers of all types in disputes involving federal and state anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation laws, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and related state leave laws, resident/patient safety retaliation claims and related whistleblower allegations, and wrongful termination claims. Laurel also has extensive experience assisting clients with the performance of in-house employment counsel duties. This experience has enabled her to provide practical advice by viewing issues through the lens of an in-house attorney and to better service her clients.
“Laurel started at Fisher Phillips as a junior associate, and she has grown into a trusted partner and role model for attorneys at all levels across the firm,” said Roger Quillen, Chairman and Managing Partner of Fisher Phillips. “She inspires others with her hard work and dedication on behalf of her clients, and I know she will set a great example for the Louisville office as she continues to represent the best that this firm has to offer.”
Laurel succeeds Thomas Birchfield, who has held the position since helping to open the Louisville office with only three other attorneys in 2009. Since that time, the office has more than tripled in size and is now home to 14 attorneys. Located on Main Street, the office is a proud corporate citizen of downtown Louisville with a full appreciation for the vibrant local culture the city has to offer.
Today the Louisville office stands out as a leader in servicing a variety of local and national organizations in healthcare, workplace safety, manufacturing, and hospitality. “As the Regional Managing Partner, I will continue to strengthen what we have to offer in these key areas with a focus on nurturing a culture that encourages and inspires the attorneys and staff who have gotten us to where we are today,” said Laurel. “It’s important to me that everyone not only recognizes the critical role they play in the office’s development and progression but feels comfortable openly expressing feedback on how we can improve as an office and as citizens of the Louisville community. I know this has been a really tough year, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and do my part to instill the confidence and motivation necessary to progress and succeed while remaining an office we can all be proud of.”
