Fisher Phillips Attorney Addresses Lingering Questions About New Jersey’s Paid Sick Leave Law

New Jersey’s new Paid Sick Leave Law kicked in on October 29 and employers are scrambling to understand the impact it has on their current HR programs and processes. Bloomberg Law, HR Advisor, Chain Store Age and The New Jersey Law Journal turned to New Jersey attorney Alvaro Hasani for insight into some of the questions employers might have. He told reporters: “Even though the paid sick law is now in effect, employers are still in the dark about some aspects of its implementation, such as how to compute benefits for workers with no fixed rate of pay, such as those who get paid commissions or tips, or are paid on a piecework basis.” He added that is unclear how the law will impact telecommuters or others whose job is split between New Jersey and another state.
