Fisher Phillips Appoints Martin Thompson to Senior Attorney at Memphis Office

MEMPHIS, TN (April 30, 2015) – Fisher Phillips has announced that Martin F. Thompson has joined the firm’s Memphis office as Senior Attorney. A Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, member of the Order of Barristers and member of the Labor & Employment Sections of the Memphis Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Thompson brings over 35 years of management representation experience in the field of labor and employment law to the firm.

As Senior Attorney, Thompson will continue to practice all aspects of labor and employment law and labor relations. On issues concerning wage and hour laws, he has successfully resolved numerous agency complaints and defended clients in some of the largest class action overtime cases filed by the U. S. Department of Labor. Thompson has extensive experience in federal and state courts and before the numerous government agencies dealing with labor or employment-related matters. He is admitted to practice before the state courts of Tennessee, and has defended clients in the federal courts in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Missouri, the Carolinas, California, Nevada, Oregon, and the Fifth, Sixth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Thompson is a native Memphian, who attended Georgetown Preparatory School in Washington, D.C., the University of Santa Clara, Calif., the University of Paris, France, and graduated cum laude from The University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Memphis School of Law, where he was a Justice of the Moot Court Board, a Captain of the Moot Court Team and President of Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity.
Thompson is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Assisi Foundation of Memphis since 1994, and is currently its Vice-Chairman. He is also a Trustee of the Elmwood Historic Cemetery in Memphis. He has worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Memphis (BGCM) since the late 1970’s, and for the past 15 years has co-directed the annual BGCM Invitational Tennis Tournament, which has netted over $1.5 million to date. Thompson is also a past Chairman of the Management Counsel Roundtable. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, hunting waterfowl and collecting coins.
