President Barack Obama signed a memorandum directing the Department of Labor to issue a rule requiring federal contractors to provide compensation data by sex and race.
The president signed the memorandum, along with an executive order banning federal contractors from retaliating against employees who discuss their compensation with one another, on a day activists have designated Equal Pay Day, in an effort to encourage employer transparency to combat gender pay disparities.
“We're just going to have to see what the regulation says,” said Cheryl. “It is going to be going to be very important to see how the OFCCP is going to require that the data be presented.
“If they are more dogmatic and say you have to give the compensation data in this way and it has to include these things, it could really be presented with a false picture of the employer's compensation that could lead an employer to further scrutiny that is really undeserved,” she said.
Cheryl was also quoted in Business Insurance about the issued memorandum.
