In an interview with Law360, Raymond Perez discusses how GCs can handle internal pressure to hire a certain firm. He explains that while others at an organization might recommend the legal department work with specific counsel, it should be in the hands of the in-house lawyers to have the "clear and exclusive authority" to retain counsel. Along with that, he explains that GCs should have solid, objective reasons that back up their decisions and selections. "Have it well known that you are hiring people who have experience, who understand the company and the company's values, they have a reputation as being effective," said Raymond.
