Kevin Troutman, a partner in the Houston office and chair of the firm's Healthcare Practice Group, was quoted in the July 11 Houston Business Journal feature "Conference Call - Healthcare: Wellness." On the subject of the most serious legal issues facing healthcare providers today, Kevin said that uncertainty is probably the biggest concern. The question of what new regulations or requirements are coming next extends beyond the impact of healthcare reform. He noted that in the areas of employment law, government agencies are becoming increasingly aggressive. "The National Labor Relations Board recently proposed rules that would severely limit opportunities to express your opinions about unionization, while giving union organizers more information about and access to your employees. Revisions to the ADA and the FMLA have made compliance with those laws trickier, so health care providers must ensure that their policies are up to date, supervisors are trained and that they continue to watch carefully for new developments."
