Cleveland Partner Interviewed by The American Lawyer About Pandemic’s Impact on Health Care Costs

In an interview with The American Lawyer, Jeff Smith discusses the impact that COVID-19 has had on law firms’ costs tied to health care claims. The article explains that many firms have been experiencing a reduction in claims cost for most plans as fewer employees visited doctor’s offices or had elective medical procedures during the pandemic. Jeff, however, cautions that law firms should not get used to the lower costs because he predicts that claims could soon go back to normal. He said, “I think to some degree, there’s maybe a backlog of pent-up demand…but with a pandemic it’s really hard to predict when that demand will be released and go back to the market.”
