Todd Scherwin spoke with CBS News Los Angeles for a segment on what employers need to know about a proposal in California’s Assembly that would reduce the state’s standard workweek to 32 hours – or four eight-hour days – for companies with more than 500 employees. The bill, if passed, would force companies to pay employees time-and-a-half for any hours worked about 32 in a week.
While it is yet to be determined whether the bill will pass, Todd explains that employers should start looking at how they would manage their workforce if it does. He suggests that employers start thinking through how they will staff their business and maintain operations for the normal five-day workweek if it is necessary in their industry.
