Alden Parker recently spoke with Law.com about the Supreme Court Case Viking River Cruises, Inc. v. Angie Moriana that will decide the legality of California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
With multiple states considering similar laws that would allow workers to sue employers for labor violations on behalf of the government – an arrangement that is currently only legal in California – this case is in the spotlight.
Depending on the outcome of this case, Alden said: “You will see these other states either drop those efforts [and] amend their language. Or a Supreme Court ruling will embolden certain states to go ahead and create their own representative action system like PAGA.”
