California Partners Discuss How Cannabis Unions Could Impact Business Nationwide

Publication

1.03.22

In a bylined article in mg Magazine  Todd Lyon and Christopher Conti, along with CannabizTeam founder and CEO Liesl Bernard, discuss the immanence of federal cannabis legalization, and what cannabis employers can do to prepare and educate themselves.

“Influenced by pandemic-related concerns about workplace health and safety, union organizing has been rising steadily in the cannabis space,” they wrote. “Unions are targeting the industry because they see it as an immense opportunity to gain more members. However, working with unions is unfamiliar to many cannabis business owners.”

Christopher and Todd discuss what this means for both small and large cannabis company owners, and what factors to consider before agreeing to requisite Labor and Peace Agreements (LPA’s), already required by many states.

They say that “one thing is clear for cannabis business owners or operators everywhere: It’s time to prioritize getting a better understanding of the labor laws in your state and learn how to collaborate with one or more unions.”
