Bloomberg Interviews Attorney on Tennessee’s New Workplace Bullying Immunity Law

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed into law legislation that would offer employers immunity from workplace-bulling lawsuits if they adopt the state’s model anti-bullying policy. The law, HB 856, expands the state’s Healthy Workplace Act to include private employers. “The immunity would apply only to general abusive conduct litigation filed in state court, but employers could still face lawsuits alleging mistreatment based on a worker’s race, gender, or other federally protected class,” Memphis partner Courtney Leyes told Bloomberg Law. “The measure could encourage smaller and midsize employers to adopt anti-bullying policies,” she added.
