Todd Lyon, co-chair of Fisher Phillips’ Labor Relations practice, and Alex Desrosiers were both quoted in a Detroit News article that explored the current Major League Baseball lockout and whether labor negotiations will be ironed out by opening day. They offered some relief to fans who have already begun to miss regularly scheduled pre- season events and spring training.
“History is on the side of everything not happening on time in terms of Opening Day, including a condensed spring training, the closer we get to those (MLB) deadlines,” said Alex. “But the more likely scenario is that both sides are going to be giving up some ground. There’s nothing different here than would be found in any courthouse litigation.”
Todd agreed with Alex, stating that it was “unlikely” that the owners and the players association would sign a new CBA before the season is gouged.
“From a fan’s perspective,” Todd said, any delay to baseball in 2022 “is mutual destruction for both sides.”
