Attorney Weighs In on Sick Leave Obligations Amid Pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a restaurant group recently laid off a large number of employees which raised questions around whether the employer needed to pay out paid sick leave in accordance to Philadelphia’s paid sick leave laws. In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, Rick Grimaldi, says an employer could challenge the city’s interpretation of the emergency regulations in court, since the original sick leave law states that workers do not need to be paid out for any unused sick time upon termination.
